Korra ep 1x09 squeeing

So this episode A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

Tbh when Korra was being brought down the stairs by Tarrlok it looked creepy as hell. Tarrlok you're one badass and slimy mofo. And this ep confirms what fandom had been thinking last episode: Tarrlok is indeed Yakone's son. And what badasses both of them are/were!

The Aang flashbacks were great. Aang's older voice is super sexy. *3* I found it adorable Toph still calls him twinkle toes. And older!Sokka has definitely matured a bit, but still goofy enough to mention his trusty boomerang. When Yakone blood bended an entire court room with out even using his hands I was so worried the AtLa bbs were gonna die right there. T___T

The only thing now is we need to see some more Katara and for Zuko to show up dammit!

Lin was perfection as usual. It was awesome we got to see her use her bending to put the police officer outfit on, and to see her use more of Toph's technique too. (Also lol'd when she slapped Tenzin to wake him up. XD She was totes the top while they were together.)


But the fucking shipping guh. That was one thing I hated about this ep. I hate it so goddamn much. I really don't like how they've handled the love triangle, and I can't stand Mako. His characterization is so inconsistent. He's literally the only character in this series I don't give two shits about. Ugh.

I think this comment over on ontd_lok summed up my feelings for Mako perfectly: "What really grates me about Mako is that Bryke clearly want us to think of him as some inscrutable romantic lead who just has ~inner conflict~, but the way it's playing out is that he's just an enormous tool who doesn't know his own mind. Plus, in being said enormous tool, he is hurting someone who has been nothing but good and loyal toward him. (Come to think of it, he hurt Bolin, too.) We're supposed to get behind Mako WHY, exactly? Because he's hot? Because he's a good pro-bender? And not even an exceptional pro-bender - Korra and Bolin have shown themselves to be just as capable.

So what we're left with is a half-baked, indecisive pretty boy with no charisma who doesn't lead, doesn't emote, hasn't shown us WHY he would be attracted to Korra, and is basically a huge snore."

I also wish Bolin's character was more than just freaking comedic relief. Sokka was comedic relief too, but we still got to see him be badass, and you know, be a competent human being with flaws. But Bolin...I love Bolin but I want him to undergo actual character development dammit! Some of his scenes made me cringe in this one. Particularly after they all woke up after being blood bended.

But Amon. HOLY SHIT AMON CAN RESIST BLOODBENDING. WTF?! Just who the fuck is this man?! (Too bad the theory he might be Tarrlok's brother is shot dead.) BUT SERIOUSLY, IS HE FROM THE SPIRIT WORLD OR SOME SHIT?!

Overall, this episode was boss though. I can't wait for the finale. Guys I'm so excited!

Also does anyone on my f-list watch Falling Skies? The second season premiere starts next Sunday and I'd love to fangirl with someone about it besides my boyfriend since he's not really into fandom, you know? Even if he totally doesn't care about my occasional shipping squee, lol he's awesome.

Yeah, basically my entire thoughts XD THAT EPISODE WAS AMAZING but I kind of want to kick Makoin the shins. Seriously, I really want Asami and Korra to sit down, realise what a jerk he is, and decide that they're better than him and then make out.

Would love more Bolin development, yeah ;_;

But the rest? dlfkhgs holy shit. I am theorising like crazy right now. (Also, he still might be Tarrlok's brother! Tarrlok might not know that Yakone had another son... or did know and just doesn't know it's him behind the mask... and with the parallels between Aang taking Yakone's bending and Amon taking Tarrlok's bending, the theory that Amon is Bumi still holds water!)

No kidding! I just can't stand Mako and his douche-y, inconsistent characterization. Korra, Asami and Bolin all deserve better!

Heh, at this rate I have no clue who Amon could be. But I'm sure Bryke will not disappoint on that front. (That would be creepy if Amon was Bumi. I've never heard that theory before. :O)

Korra, Asami, and Bolin are my new OT3. Lin can come too. Lin why were you looking at the sixteen-year-old's crotch in the first place... ahem.

The idea behind it is that... if your mother is one of the most famed Waterbenders in the world, and your father is the Avatar, and your older sister and younger brother are both talented Benders, and you can't bend at ALL... wouldn't you feel resentful? They also suggested that Aang could have taught Bumi to Chi block and maybe energy bend/energy SOMETHING to compensate for not being a bender. And, well, I really like the like-father-like-son parallels XD

Ah, now that makes sense! Yeah that would suck having two siblings who are benders, and both parents who are benders, and you being a non-bender. :/

She was 'assessing his strength' as an Earthbender? ;) ...Seriously, though, I really want her to teach Korra and Bolin how to metalbend.

Yeah - and not just benders, but your father is the AVATAR. People would be expecting great things from you. Although, I did see one thing that might have jossed that - Amon's hands are quite light, and Bumi's official art is pretty dark.

I feel you 100% about the shipping and Bolin. I keep waiting for Bolin to get some sweet character development and/or to get with Korra, but both of those seem increasingly unlikely to happen. :(

I know! If Sokka got sweet character development in AtLA, so should Bolin. But it doesn't seem to be happening at the current moment. *sigh*
